A Cross-Core Performance Model for Heterogeneous Many-Core Architectures
نویسندگان
چکیده
An accurate performance predictor to identify the most suitable core-architecture to execute each thread/workload in a heterogeneous many-core structure is proposed. The devised predictor is based on a linear regression model that considers several different parameters of the many-core processor architectures, including the cache size, issuewidth, re-order buffer size, load/store queues size, etc.. The devised predictor is easily integrated in most system schedulers, providing the ability to periodically determine whether a certain thread is running in the most efficient core-architecture. The obtained experimental results show that the devised model is able to identify the correct core-architecture in a large majority of the cases, leading to average performance differences as low as 7% when compared with an oracle scheduling solution.

Ultra-Low-Energy DSP Processor Design for Many-Core Parallel Applications
Background and Objectives: Digital signal processors are widely used in energy constrained applications in which battery lifetime is a critical concern. Accordingly, designing ultra-low-energy processors is a major concern. In this work and in the first step, we propose a sub-threshold DSP processor. Methods: As our baseline architecture, we use a modified version of an existing ultra-low-power...
متن کاملProgramming Framework for Reliable and Efficient Embedded Many-Core Systems
Many-core Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) are of increasing significance in the domain of high-performance embedded computing systems where high performance requirements meet stringent timing constraints. The high computing power offered by many-core SoCs, however, does not necessarily translate into high performance. On the one hand, the use of deep submicrometer process technology to fabricate SoCs im...
متن کاملMagnetohydrodynamics on Heterogeneous architectures: a performance comparison
We present magneto-hydrodynamic simulation results for heterogeneous systems. Heterogeneous architectures combine high floating point performance many-core units hosted in conventional server nodes. Examples include Graphics Processing Units (GPU’s) and Cell. They have potentially large gains in performance, at modest power and monetary cost. We implemented a magneto-hydrodynamic (MHD) simulati...

The European FP7 project PEPPHER is addressing programmability and performance portability for current and emerging heterogeneous many-core architectures. As its main idea, the project proposes a multi-level parallel execution model comprised of potentially parallelized components existing in variants suitable for different types of cores, memory configurations, input characteristics, optimizat...
متن کاملCross-Platform OpenCL Code and Performance Portability for CPU and GPU Architectures Investigated with a Climate and Weather Physics Model
Current multiand many-core computing typically involves multi-core Central Processing Units (CPU) and many-core Graphical Processing Units (GPU) whose architectures are distinctly different. To keep longevity of application codes, it is highly desirable to have a programming paradigm to support these current and future architectures. Open Computing Language (OpenCL) is created to address this p...
